Privacy Policy — Screen Recorder by Sovrest
Last updated: August 16, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what data Screen Recorder by Sovrest ("the Extension") processes, how it is processed, and your rights as a user. By installing or using the Extension, you agree to this Policy.
1. Who we are
Data Controller: Sovrest
Contact: info@sovrest.com
Telegram: https://t.me/NeuralBot_Support
2. What the Extension does
The Extension records your screen, a browser tab, an application window, or your camera (Pro). The recording is processed entirely inside your browser and saved to your local Downloads folder.
3. Data we process
3.1. Locally (on your device):
The video and audio of whatever you choose to record (your entire screen, a specific window, a tab, or camera feed). Capture starts ONLY after you grant permission via the system's screen-share picker for each individual recording.
Microphone audio (optional, you decide before each recording).
Tab/system audio (optional, you decide before each recording).
Your settings (resolution, frame rate, bitrate, output format MP4/WebM, countdown, click and cursor highlighting, camera overlay and its position and size) — stored in
chrome.storage.local.If you are a Pro user and enable a custom watermark, the image you upload is stored in
chrome.storage.localas a data URL (up to 1 MB), together with its position, size and opacity. That image stays on your device and is only drawn onto your own recording.Your Pro licence data — stored in
chrome.storage.localunder these keys:sovrest:key(licence key),sovrest:jwt(signed licence token),sovrest:refresh(refresh token),sovrest:device_id(a random UUID generated at install, not derived from your hardware),sovrest:last_refresh(timestamp) andsovrest:license_meta(cached licence details: plan, edition, licence end date, activation count, last check time). This data lets the Extension verify your Pro licence offline using a public-key signature (RS256 / RSA-2048) and keep working for up to 14 days without a network connection.
3.2. Sent over the network: NO RECORDING DATA, EVER.
Recordings are never uploaded. They stay on your device for the entire pipeline: capture → encode (WebM/VP9 in your browser) → optional post-processing (MP4 conversion, watermark — also in your browser via the mediabunny library) → saved to your Downloads folder.
The only network request this Extension makes is to https://sovrest.com/api/licenses, when you activate, refresh or deactivate a Pro licence: it sends your licence key, your device ID, the refresh token, and a header identifying which Sovrest extension is asking (X-App-Id).
If you never activate a Pro licence, the Extension makes no network requests at all.
The promotional panel shown to free users is not fetched from anywhere — its content is built into the Extension and rotates on a local timer.
3.3. We do NOT use cookies, analytics, ad networks, or tracking pixels. The Extension contains no third-party SDKs.
4. Permissions we request and why
storage— to save your settings and your licence locally.downloads— to save the finished recording to your Downloads folder.offscreen— Chrome's MV3 architecture requires an "offscreen document" to keep the recorder running while you switch tabs. The offscreen document is invisible and is where all capture and encoding happens.scripting, activeTaband access to sites (<all_urls>) — used for one purpose only: when you turn on click or cursor highlighting, the Extension draws a highlight overlay on the tab you are recording, so that your clicks are visible in the video. Nothing is read from the page and nothing is sent anywhere. If you leave highlighting off, no page is ever touched. Pages such aschrome://and the Chrome Web Store are skipped entirely.
The Extension does NOT request tabCapture or desktopCapture. Every mode captures through the browser's standard screen-share picker (getDisplayMedia), which Chrome always shows you before recording can start.
5. Third parties
- Sovrest License System (https://sovrest.com) — when you activate a Pro licence, the Extension communicates with Sovrest's licence servers to verify your key. See https://sovrest.com/privacy for Sovrest's general policy.
- No advertising networks. No analytics platforms.
- mediabunny library — third-party JavaScript library bundled INSIDE the Extension for in-browser video processing. It runs locally; it does not make any network requests.
6. Data retention
- Your settings and licence data remain in your browser until you uninstall the Extension or clear browser data.
- Recordings: you control them. They live in your local Downloads folder; we have no copy.
- Sovrest's licence system keeps a record of your licence activations (licence key, device ID and activation timestamps) for as long as the licence exists — this is what enforces the device limit.
- We hold no recordings. There is nothing to retain, because nothing is uploaded.
7. Your rights
You can at any time:
- Delete your recordings — they are normal files in your Downloads folder; just delete them.
- Delete the Extension — this removes all locally stored settings and licence data.
- Deactivate your Pro licence — frees up a device slot.
- Request deletion of your licence activation records — write to info@sovrest.com. Note that Sovrest holds none of your recordings; the only record is the licence activation itself.
8. Children
The Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be announced inside the Extension and on https://sovrest.com.
